The members of the Security Council welcomed steps taken so far by the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Taliban to move towards the start of intra-Afghan negotiations.

Key points

– UN endorsement of Pakistan’s stance that Political settlement is the only way forward.

– Appreciating the partial implementation of commitments to release prisoners.

– The members of the Security Council called for the rapid release of remaining prisoners in the coming days.

– UNSC called for the reduction in violence in Afghanistan without mentioning the details.

As per the official Peace agreement between IEA and the US, the deal just covers attacks of IEA on the US and vice versa. The agreement does not address the topic of attacks on Afghan forces.

This came just days after two “Alarming” reports made headlines around the globe.

Afghanistan government report on violence in Afghanistan. ” Deadliest week in 19 years of conflict”

US intelligence report on Afghanistan “Russia offering bounties to insurgents in Afghanistan”

Important Note: Another Important statement from UNSC expected tonight.
