Ukrainian company UkrSpecExport has successfully modernized the Ilyushin Il-78MP Midas aerial refueling tanker & military transport aircraft of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF).
Official statement issued by UkrSpecExport states, ‘Specialists of the state enterprise Nikolaev Aircraft Repair Plant (NARP), which is a part of state concern Ukroboronprom, have completed the overhaul and modernization of the refueling aircraft Ilyushin Il-78MP Midas of the Pakistan Air Force. Recently, the restored and modernized aircraft was handed over to Pakistan Air Force and went to the base (home)’.
Ukrspeсexport called this event an important stage of cooperation with Pakistan.
Pakistan Air Force & UkrSpecExport inked a multi-million-dollar deal in June 2020 to overhaul & upgrade 1x Ilyushin Il-78MP Midas aerial refueler of PAF.
The agreement was initially signed for the modernization of only 1x IL-78MP Midas, however it includes a clause for the expansion of the contract to overhaul 2x more IL-78MP Midas of Pakistan Air Force. PAF currently operates 4x Il-78 Midas.
The clause is subjected to satisfactory work. If the upgraded IL-78 Midas turns out as intended, Pakistan Air Force will activate the clause to overhaul & upgrade 2x more IL-78 Midas of PAF.
Note: Pictures attached are of recently upgraded & overhauled IL-78MP Midas of Pakistan Air Force. Il-78MP are fitted with removable fuel tanks in cargo hold and UPAZ refueling pods.
