Philippine Navy provided Medical Assistance to 2x Pakistan Navy personnel injured on board PNS SHAMSHEER as it traversed through the waters of Ilocos Sur on Friday, October 21st, 2022.
PNS SHAMSHEER was en route to Korea before going to Japan for the Fleet Review of the Japanese Maritime Self-defense Force (JMSDF) when two of its personnel working in the forecastle were injured due to the rough sea conditions that caused their ship to shake intensely.
The Naval Forces of Northern Luzon, upon receiving the distressed radio message from the ship opened the port of Sta. Ana Cagayan anchorage area wherein they were given first aid before evacuating to the nearest hospital in the area, which is the Grupo Medico De Dios Hospital.
The injured Pakistani nationals were identified as Lieutenant Commander Mudassir Aziz Tamimi (Executive Officer), who was suffering from leg and arm fractures, and Zia-Ul-Islam (Chief Petty Officer), who had head injuries and was unconscious during the time of medical evacuation. The said personnel are currently recovering at the Grupo Medico De Dios Hospital.
