Launching ceremony of 2nd Type 054A/P Frigate for the Pakistan Navy was held in China. 1st ship was launched in August 2020. 3rd and 4th ship are under construction while 1st has completed sea trials and almost completed weapons and subsystems integration. All ships are due for delivery in the last quarter of 2021.
The Type 054A/Ps are cutting-edge major surface combatant warships, the most modern frigates ever developed by China and are designed for intense Anti-Air, Anti-Surface, and Anti-Submarine operations. The over 4,000 tonne, 440 feet long warships will be armed with a 32-cell Vertical Launch System (VLS), 2×4 Land-Attack/Anti-Ship Cruise Missile (LACM/AShCM) launchers, a 76 mm main naval gun, 2×3 Anti-Submarine Torpedo launchers, 2×6 Anti-Submarine rocket launchers and a helicopter deck and hangar for a maritime ASW helicopter.
The Type 054A/Ps also feature a state-of-the-art combat management system capable of integrated naval battlegroup formation operations with the rest of the Pakistani naval fleet. Avionics include a VLO AI Radar, a 3D AESA radar, SATCOM, Link Green, sensors and advanced Electronic Warfare, ECM, and ESM modules.
The Chief of Naval Staff of the Pakistan Navy said, “These ships will boost [the] potency of our fleet and significantly contribute to maintaining peace and security in the region.”
