Pakistan Navy successfully detected and located an intruding Indian Kalvari-Class (French Scorpène, non-AIP) attack submarine, which had crossed over into Pakistan’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) on the 16th of October 2021. The submarine was 110 nautical miles off the coast of Sindh. The intruding submarine was detected by Pakistan Navy surface components and their ASW helicopters before a P-3C Orion was called in which located and tracked the submarine, which was then subsequently forced to surface. The submarine was escorted by the Pakistan Navy for more than half an hour after which it left Pakistani waters. Once located, the Pakistan Naval Air Arm aircraft possessed the means to target and destroy the intruder, yet the Pakistan Navy showed restraint. It is the third incident of its kind wherein; an Indian Naval Submarine has been prematurely detected and tracked by Pakistan Navy’s Long Range Maritime Patrol Aircraft (LRMPA). The difference between the Indian submarine and its rendezvous with the floor of the Arabian Sea was just the push of a button.

The Pakistan Navy says, “The recent incident reflects the deplorable submarine training of Indian Navy vis-à-vis commitment and resolve of Pakistan Navy to defend geographical frontier of the motherland”.
